The Society for Modern Greek Studies calls on graduate students (research or taught) and early career scholars (immediate postdoctoral, 0-2 years from the end of their PhD) from universities in the UK and abroad to participate in its annual Graduate Research Colloquium, this year held in-person at the University of Reading. Applications should be made by Sunday 23 February 2025.
The one-day Colloquium is a student-led event that aspires to bring together graduate students and early career scholars currently undertaking research related to the Modern Greek world and Cyprus (1453-present). Applications from any field of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences are welcome, and proposals emphasising the cross-national dynamics in the Southeastern Mediterranean are particularly encouraged.
The Colloquium provides students with the opportunity to present their research, discuss their ideas with their peers, expand cross-disciplinary collaboration, and gain important feedback on their work by distinguished scholars.
To propose a paper, please use this form or the QR code above, providing a title, an abstract of 300 words maximum (i.e. approx. 2000 characters, inclusive spaces), and a brief CV (400 words/3000 characters).
Alternatively, proposals and brief CVs can be emailed as one PDF document to Chris Salatelis (c.salatelis@pgr.reading.ac.uk), indicating your full name, degree title, and university affiliation in the proposal.
Successful applicants will be notified by 9 March and will then be invited to register their attendance. There are no registration fees and there will also be a limited number of places for non-speakers.
Successful applicants must be members of the Society for Modern Greek Studies. If not, they may join the Society after they are notified of successful submission, at www.moderngreek.org.uk/society/join.
The Society welcomes submissions from graduate students registered at universities outside the UK but can only refund travel expenses (up to £50) if they are payable to a UK bank account. Priority will be given to students
registered at UK universities.
The Colloquium will take place in person at the University of Reading on Friday 30 May 2025.
